James Murdoch… disingenuous, or just lying?
November 10th, 2011 • Related • Filed Under
Although, as both Murdochs have assured the HoC Culture Committee, the News of the World was a paltry, unimportant adjunct to their mighty media empire. Nevertheless, as James authorised the payment of the thick end of a million quid to Gordon Taylor, he must still have wondered which journalist (among his 50,000 employees) had pursued a (unpublished) story which was costing more than a paltry amount. Or did he simply assume it was the work of former Screws Royal editor, Clive Goodman (the sole ‘rogue reporter’)?
Incredibly, that is what he expected the Commons CMS committee to believe.
If I were them, I’d be feeling deeply insulted.

Hello Peter
Listening to you at the Leveson Inquiry today, I thought you might be interested to have a look at the gentlemenranters site (www.gentlemenranters.com) which posts stories and comments from journalists, mainly retired or from the good old days, every Friday. Revel Barker, who runs the site, also publishes books by and about journalists. Although some are new titles, many are reprints of classic books by journalists and reporters who were famous in their day. You night like to take a look, to add to your interest and expertise. John Dale, who for many years edite Take A Break, the best-selling non-celebrity women’s weekly, is also closely monitoring the Leveson Inquiry.
As an ex-tabloid journalist (Sunday People, Sun, Daily Mail) I am also taking a close interest in Leveson and feel journalism will never be the same again.
